Why is sleep so important?

Our mental health and wellbeing have a strong connection to sleep.  Feeling overwhelmed and having difficulties with your wellbeing can sometimes impact on sleep, and lack of sleep can also impact on your wellbeing.  It is really important to have good sleep habits so you can get to sleep at night and wake up feeling refreshed and rested.

If you have problems with your sleep you may:

  • Struggle to fall asleep, struggle to stay asleep or wake up earlier than you would prefer
  • Struggle to wake up or get out of bed
  • Frequently feel tired or sleepy – due to not getting enough sleep or poor quality sleep
  • End up sleeping too much or sleeping when you would usually be awake
  • Feel anxious or low
  • Have low energy levels
  • Struggle to concentrate
  • Feel irritable
  • Feel overwhelmed with daily life
  • Experience other health issues
